Biography

Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains is a company owned by Daimler, falling under the same umbrella as the Mercedes road car and Formula One team. This company dedicates itself to the design and manufacture of the F1 engines, however, as well as the KERS and hybrid power devices.

Based in Northamptonshire, the company prides itself on quality and aims only to provide race and championship-winning engines/power units to their F1 customers. There are 400 people based at the Brixworth purpose-built Technology Centre, all working to make their customer cars faster and more competitive.

The company was initially known as Mercedes-Ilmor, and went through Mercedes High Performance Engines before the new era of Formula One dictated the use of ‘Powertrain’ rather than ‘Engine’. Along the way, they have won awards for technical excellence, and providing the best racing engine. They helped the Mercedes works team to their triple world championship domination, from 2014 to 2016 and beyond.
