Lewis Hamilton wasn't troubled by his championship challenger Sebastian Vettel in Japan, but he did have to battle Max Verstappen to take the chequered flag. Hamilton was just one second ahead of the Red Bull driver, with Daniel Ricciardo joining the pair on the podium. Bottas settled for fourth just ahead of Räikkönen on the road.

Meanwhile, Vettel's title fight took a real hit when he retired just four laps into the event, and he was joined by Stroll, Hülkenberg, Ericsson and Sainz to not record a finish.
