There was heavy rain ahead of the final practice session at Suzuka, but it had cleared up in time for the action to get underway. Valtteri Bottas was the fastest driver, but he topped the timesheets just before crashing out of the session. He wasn't the only one struggling, Kimi Räikkönen also hit the barriers, bringing out the red flags.

It was a close run thing for the midfield drivers, with Daniel Ricciardo in fifth place down to Lance Stroll in fifteenth split by less than a second.
