It's almost impossible to describe how the grid for the Italian Grand Prix is formed, except to say that nine drivers have taken a mixture of power unit and gearbox penalties at various stages across the weekend. The largest penalties are reserved for McLaren, as always, and for Red Bull - who knew they were in for some significant grid drops before the action got going.

However, there are also penalties fro both the Renault drivers, as well as Romain Grosjean, Carlos Sainz and Sergio Pérez. The resulting grid creates a tantalising mixture with out of position drivers up front and plenty with work to do further back.
