Qualifying had barely gotten underway when it was red flagged due to the poor conditions. The rain had been falling steadily, and it only took a few laps before Romain Grosjean spun off into the wall, causing the FIA to halt the running. A two and a half hour delay ensued before the action got going again - still on wet tyres but with grip and visibility much improved.

The Red Bull drivers qualified well but both of them are facing hefty power unit penalties which will drop them down the grid, and Lance Stroll in the Williams will benefit from that. He'll rise to the front row of the grid, starting alongside polesitter Lewis Hamilton for the race tomorrow.
