Pascal Wehrlein found himself hit with a five place grid drop after the Sauber team were forced to change his gearbox. The German crashed during qualifying, spinning his car into the wall, which entailed a hasty patch up job by the mechanics. Unfortunately, following the gearbox change, they also had to make other adjustments which meant a start from the pit lane was required.

Wehrlein's penalties were the only ones for the grid, though, everyone else simply moved up a place, and Hamilton retained his P1 position.
