All the attention in qualifying was on the fight between Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel for pole position. In the final top ten shoot out, Hamilton set a shockingly fast lap - the quickest ever around this track - and setting up a seemingly unbeatable provisional pole. Vettel then matched his pace, moving into second place with a gap of just 0.004 seconds. Next time round, Hamilton improved on his own incredible lap time, whilst Vettel had to settle for second.

Elsewhere, Daniil Kvyat hit the wall in the second session, picking up a puncture, but his efforts were nowhere near as bad as Wehrlein. Pascal's Q1 crash saw the Sauber hit a corner of grass and go spinning into the wall.
