Lewis Hamilton was unhurried as he took victory from pole position, after leading every lap of the British Grand Prix. Behind him, there was chaos. Valtteri Bottas made a good strategy work and moved up to second place, but he was helped out by the two Ferrari drivers picking up punctures late in the day. Kimi Räikkönen was the first to struggle, and Sebastian Vettel followed on the next lap, so they finished third and seventh respectively.

Jolyon Palmer was unable to start the race after his Renault gave up on the formation lap, whilst Carlos Sainz was bumped out on the first lap by his teammate, and Fernando Alonso succumbed to the now traditional Honda engine issue.
