Mercedes moved ahead of Red Bull for the final hour of running ahead of qualifying in Baku. Valtteri Bottas posted the fastest time with Kimi Räikkönen managing to split the two Mercedes drivers at the top of the timesheets. The kerbs were lowered at turn 8 which meant there was less crashing in this session, but still plenty of issues.

Verstappen's car shut down on track, Vettel's running was cut short after a hydraulic issue, and more visibly than all of them, Jolyon Palmer's Renault caught fire. He was forced to halt and let the mechanics move in with fire extinguishers.
