More than half the field posted fastest lap times that beat the race record of 2017, proving that the current batch of cars are heading in the right direction in terms of desired pace. There appeared to be a huge battle going on between the drivers, all keen on getting the fastest lap of the race. Daniil Kvyat and Max Verstappen in particular were asking their engineers how close they were to the fastest lap benchmark.

In the end, it went down to the penultimate lap, with Valtteri Bottas and Kimi Räikkönen just six hundredths of a second apart - and the Ferrari driver coming out on top.
