It was a close battle for the top spot between teammates, but Bottas snatched provisional pole on the first run of Q3, and neither Mercedes driver could improve on their time, leaving Valtteri on top. Red Bull and Ferrari shared a spot each on the second and third rows, with Hülkenberg, two Force Indias and Massa rounding out the top ten.

Massa edged out Alonso in Q2 to take that final top ten spot, and it was both McLarens that dropped out in the second session. In Q1, both Toro Rosso and both Sauber drivers missed the cut, as did Romain Grosjean who was particularly disappointed.
