Event overview

The Mexico City track is named after the Rodríguez brothers of Ricardo and Pedro who raced in Formula One as well as sportscar and endurance series as well. The park circuit opened in the 1960s, a government-owned track that takes a couple of corners from the existing oval, as well as some of the more traditional right and left corners around the rest of the public park.

Formula One was a key fixture at the Autódromo from the moment it opened, with the Mexican Grand Prix taking place there in 1962. Initially it wasn't a championship event but it was added to the championship roster for 1963 and beyond. A brief hiatus during the 1970s occurred whilst the track underwent redevelopment, and the final Grand Prix was held in 1992.

A baseball stadium was built at one end of the track, but this was paved over for the return of the race in the 2015 season. It had been scheduled on the provisional calendar in both 2013 and 2014 but was delayed on both occasions, until finally making the official schedule for 2015. Nico Rosberg won the first race, and the track was received well. The baseball section, with crowds surrounding the track, was a particular highlight, giving good views of the action for fans, and a great atmosphere for the drivers.
