Driver standings - Japanese Grand Prix 2016 - Verstappen equals points for fifth, as Rosberg extends his lead

Lewis Hamilton's championship defense took another knock in Japan, as Rosberg's victory allowed him to extend his lead to 33 points. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen moved up to fifth place, on equal points with Sebastian Vettel, but ahead thanks to better finishing positions. Felipe Massa also made progress, moving ahead of Fernando Alonso to sneak into tenth place by a single point.

Further back, two of the Manor drivers remain on zero points, Sauber also have yet to score a single point, whilst Esteban Gutiérrez was disappointed from his top ten start to finish out of the scoring positions.
