Hamilton continued his dominance as a new weekend gets underway in Hungary, the Brit easily leading the first practice session. Vettel was third fastest as Ferrari were firmly best of the rest. The track was damp to start with after earlier rain showers, but Bottas was the first to try slick tyres and the times soon tumbled.

Sauber were trying out some updates to their rear wing after finally confirming new investment earlier in the week. Meanwhile, Friday drivers were in force once again as Charles Leclerc took another turn in the Haas, and Esteban Ocon in the Renault. He managed to post a faster laptime than Jolyon Palmer, but in fairness, the Brit had mechanical gremlins that kept him in the garage for much of the session.
