It was Rosberg’s turn to get a poor start to his race, as the German dropped to fourth at the start of the German Grand Prix. Hamilton moved in to the lead and never looked back, despite a late challenge by Daniel Ricciardo. Rosberg and Verstappen did battle for a while, before Nico was handed a five second time penalty that held him up in the pits and ended his fight for a podium.

Felipe Massa retired after being punted by Jolyon Palmer, the Brazilian trying to manage the damage but eventually conceding defeat and heading back to the garage. Felipe Nasr also ended his race early with an engine failure. Force India got two drivers in the top ten, which helps their championship challenge against Williams, who only managed one.
