Lewis Hamilton inched ahead of his teammate to secure the first spot on the grid for the race at Interlagos, with Kimi Räikkönen behind the two Mercedes. There was rain in the air but it didn't affect the running too much so there were no major surprises in Q1. Manor and Sauber were knocked out of the session, joined by Kevin Magnussen and Jenson Button.

Williams dropped out in Q2, whilst Fernando Alonso managed to get into the top ten and Romain Grosjean hauled his Haas up to an impressive seventh place!
