Lewis Hamilton led the Abu Dhabi race from the front, controlling the pace from the start to the somewhat slow finish. He did his best to back Rosberg into the competition but the German held on for second place, securing himself the world championship. Meanwhile, Sebastian Vettel finished on the podium, defending from Max Verstappen who himself recovered from a first lap spin, converted to a one stop strategy, and ended up in fourth place.

Jenson Button suffered a disappointing retirement to end his F1 career, but he wasn’t alone. Kevin Magnussen, Valtteri Bottas and both the Toro Rosso drivers also failed to see the chequered flag.
