Mercedes locked out the front row of the grid for the final round of the 2016 season, with Lewis Hamilton scooping pole position for the race on Sunday. Rosberg did his best but had to settle for second place, with Daniel Ricciardo and Kimi Räikkönen behind. Both the front runners are likely happy that Max Verstappen qualified further back, in sixth place, easing the pressure on them into the first corner.

Toro Rosso’s difficult weekend continued with both drivers dropping out in Q1, whilst Pascal Wehrlein capitalised on this to get into Q2 with his Manor. Button qualified 12th on his final race in F1, whilst Massa managed to squeeze into the top ten for his last hurrah.
