Nico Rosberg secured his first pole position of the season, beating teammate Lewis Hamilton to the top spot by over two tenths of a second. The pair were half a second faster than third place Sebastian Vettel, with Valtteri Bottas joining the Ferrari on the second row. Behind them, both the Toro Rosso rookies outqualified their Red Bull counterparts, with Daniel Ricciardo having to settle for tenth place.

McLaren saw both their drivers into Q2 for the first time this year, and Alonso finished just ahead of Button, scooping 13th place by one tenth of a second. Manor brought up the rear, as usual, with Force India and Sauber also struggling to find pace. Sergio Pérez was last of the main pack, three seconds off the pace, with Stevens and Merhi a further three and four seconds slower.
