After a delayed first session, teams needed a solid second session to complete their programmes, but the weather in Russia was not complying. With more slippery conditions to contend with, it was Felipe Massa who came out on top with a lap time just over two minutes. Sebastain Vettel tucked into second place behind him, but neither completed more than eight laps.

Just eight drivers set lap times, and only fourteen ventured out on track at all. Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg completed a couple of exploratory laps but didn't set times.
