It was wet in the afternoon for the second practice session, leaving drivers cautiously waiting in the garage. Whereas normally FP2 is about getting long run data and testing out the tyres on various fuel loads, the most laps were completed by Fernando Alonso with 18, whilst Roberto Merhi only managed 9. The Manor driver crashed after just a quarter of an hour, bringing out the red flags whilst the marshals cleared the car from the track.

Elsewhere, Marcus Ericsson failed to set a lap time after his Sauber developed an energy recovery issue, whilst his teammate Felipe Nasr wasn’t that much further ahead in terms of pace.
