The second qualifying session of the season saw Lewis Hamilton secure another pole position, with Nico Rosberg unable to improve on his own time. Sebastian Vettel snatched the second front row spot with Rosberg settling for third. Behind them, the Renault powered Red Bull and Toro Rosso drivers finished high up the order.

There was a half hour delay during qualifying thanks to a downpour midway through Q2, but by then both McLaren drivers and Kimi Räikkönen in the second Ferrari had already been knocked out. Kimi made it up to 11th, but Alonso and Button were out in the first session. Roberto Merhi managed to participate in qualifying for Manor GP, but teammate Will Stevens was forced to sit the session out.
