Lewis Hamilton was back on top of the timesheets for second practice, although he was still suffering some engine and gearbox issues throughout the ninety minute session. Sebastian Vettel spun during one of his qualifying lap practices, admitting later that he was pushing too hard to see where the limits were.

Roberto Merhi also spun off, beaching his Manor in the gravel and causing a red flag. The team completed 18 laps during the session though, bringing their total to 34 for the day. Ferrari continued to show good pace, with Daniil Kvyat also up in the top four. Fellow Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo had an engine issue that saw him finish tenth.
