Sebastian Vettel continued to cling on to the coat-tails of the Mercedes as he improved to post the second fastest time in final practice ahead of qualifying in Italy. He split the two Mercedes cars, and was the only non-Mercedes power to feature in the top five. Williams rounded out the top five, with Force India and Lotus also showing well in the final hour of practice.

Ricciardo suffered another session of mechanical trouble when his Red Bull stopped out on track halfway through the running, reportedly with an engine issue. He finished last on the timesheets, with his fellow Renault-powered drivers around him.
