Mercedes led the way in Monza again, although things were closer between the two drivers at the top than in first practice. With the Italian circuit such an engine-heavy track, Mercedes power dominated the top ten with only Ferrari able to break the mould. Vettel finished in third ahead of two Force India drivers who were followed by Räikkönen.

Jenson Button was only able to complete three laps before he had to return to the garage due to a mechanical issue the team needed to investigate. Daniel Ricciardo was also struggling as his Red Bull picked up a hydraulic issue that meant spending more time in the garage than he would have liked.
