Hamilton dominated the second practice session in Montreal, but perhaps not all for the reasons he would have wanted. The Mercedes driver did set the fastest time of the session, but he also managed to spin his car into the barriers at the hairpin. Faster times were set early on in the afternoon, with rain gradually moving in and halting proceedings.

Mercedes sent both their drivers out on intermediate tyres, only for Hamilton to end his session in the tyre wall. Red flags came out whilst the car was recovered, and effectively ended the day’s running. In the dry, however, Lewis was fastest with the two Ferrari drivers getting ahead of Nico Rosberg on the timesheets. Lotus continued to post faster times, with Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa showing improvements in the Williams as well.
