Despite picking up some mileage in the final practice session, Jenson Button was unable to participate in qualifying after his McLaren stopped out on track during an outlap with electrical issues. Fernando Alonso managed to get into Q2 for the first time (for him, and the team) this year, whilst Daniel Ricciardo just squeezed into the top ten. Daniil Kvyat dropped out in Q1 after struggling to put a lap together.

Williams were firmly in the middle of the top ten order, with Ferrari continuing to hound Mercedes. Lewis Hamilton secured pole position, with Sebastian Vettel once again demoting Nico Rosberg to third.
