Rémi Taffin has been part of the Renault outfit for many years. As an engine supplier to several F1 teams, Taffin was tasked with keeping up relations with their customers on the grid. When Renault took over the team formerly known as Lotus ahead of the 2016 season, Rémi was given the role of technical director of the new Enstone outfit.

Biography

Rémi Taffin graduated from university in France and dived headlong into a career in motorsport. He spent some time working in Formula 3, before joining the Renault Sport project in 1999. Initially, his role included work with British American Racing and Supertec, but over the years the name and number of partners has evolved.

His association with Renault allowed him to work in a variety of jobs in Formula One, including as race engineer to both Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso. He was on the pit wall with the Spaniard as he secured his two consecutive world championships in 2005 and 2006. As the team withdrew from running a works squad, Taffin moved to support their partners on the engine side, rather than the drivers.

As head of track operations, Taffin is responsible for the power units supplied by Renault Sport to the Formula One teams signed up as partners. For the 2015 season, that meant just the Red Bull and Toro Rosso teams to look after, as Renault lost the partnership with Lotus at the end of the 2014 season. Ahead of the season, Taffin was given the additional challenge of managing operations at the factory as well, giving him the new title Director of Operations.

When Renault bought back their controlling interest in Lotus, Rémi became Technical Director of the Enstone squad.
