Jörg Zander has plenty of F1 experience, working his way through several teams during his time in the sport. He started out with Toyota, before bouncing to BAR and then Williams, then BMW Sauber. He went back to Honda, followed by a stint with Audi in the WEC before rejoining Sauber as Technical Director for the 2017 season.

Biography

After graduating from university in Germany, Zander was employed by Toyota initially for their touring car department but eventually moving to work on their Formula One car. Zander moved to BAR in 2003, and two years later moved again to join the Williams squad as Chief Designer. He worked with the Grove based squad for just over six months, before resigning due to “personal reasons.”

Jörg’s next role was at the combined BMW Sauber squad, but a year later he returned to the now-just-called Honda team (formerly BAR). He stayed on board during the difficult winter that saw Ross Brawn take over and rename the team after himself, but Zander left midway through the successful championship-winning season.

Zander joined Audi to work on their endurance championship entries, but the company withdrew from the series at the end of the 2016 season. Jörg was then confirmed to be rejoining the Sauber squad for 2017, signing up as Technical Director.
