Biography

Dave Redding made his F1 debut with the Benetton team, joining the sport in 1988 and working his way up the ranks. He moved to McLaren in 1995, taking up the number one mechanic role for two seasons. After that, he left the Woking squad to help set up the brand new Stewart Grand Prix team.

Redding rejoined McLaren in 2000, entering as part of the engineering department. He started out as a systems engineer, then worked his way up to assistant race engineer, then third car engineer, and then a more managerial and operational role in 2009.

He became Team Manager but was confirmed as leaving McLaren after 17 years with the squad in early 2017. Redding had a couple of months to handover his role to an internal replacement, before leaving to join Williams in a similar management position.
