Will Stevens was thrown in at the deep end with a last minute call to drive for the Caterham team in the final race of the 2014 season. Having only just achieved his super-licence, the young racer made his F1 debut in Abu Dhabi, with only his various Formula Renault series appearances to draw on for experience. For the 2015 season only, he was confirmed as a driver for the Marussia/Manor squad as they came out of administration to start over again.

F1 biography

Will Stevens slowly worked his way up through the junior categories of single seater racing in the UK, including most of the variations of the Formula Renault genre. His latest work was in the Formula 3.5 category, where he finished 4th in 2013 and 6th in 2014. He also combined his 2013 season with a test drive for the Caterham F1 team.

When the Caterham team confirmed they would be returning from a period of administration with a final race funded in Abu Dhabi, Will Stevens was given the second seat alongside Kamui Kobayashi. It was touch and go, as Stevens had yet to be approved for his superlicence but he was finally given the go-ahead and prepared to make his F1 debut at the final round of the 2014 season.

It was a solid, if unspectacular, drive with Stevens finishing 17th but keeping out of trouble throughout the race. For 2015, he was confirmed as a race driver for the Manor Grand Prix team, another outfit coming out of administration and looking for a return to racing. He had a highlight finish of 13th at Silverstone but it was otherwise an unspectacular season for the team.

In 2016, Stevens changed disciplines, joining the World Endurance Championship and European Le Mans Series.
