For his debut race in Formula One, the Australian Grand Prix didn't go smoothly for Pastor Maldonado. He qualified ahead of his far more experienced teammate Rubens Barrichello, after the latter crashed out of the second session. That left Pastor in a relatively good mid-field position at the start of the race.

He had a quiet start, managing to avoid the traffic, but before long, the car underneath him gave out and his debut was over. With little to say after the retirement, Pastor simply looks ahead to the Malaysian Grand Prix to do better.

However, he did take heart from the start of his performance: "There was no warning, we just stopped and that was it for us. The start was great though."
