The Mercedes team are still reeling from their performance in Spain - in which a front row lock-out was squandered due to a lack of pace. With Monaco next on the agenda, qualifying will be super-important to gain a good start around the narrow street circuit, but having the speed to back that up is also crucial.

Mercedes chief Toto Wolff says: "Although overtaking in Monaco is difficult, we cannot afford to be complacent in terms of tyre management and we will need to do significantly better than we managed in Barcelona in order to score a strong result.

"We have only scored points with one of our cars at the past three races and this is something we must improve quickly, beginning next weekend in Monte Carlo."

Despite labelling the Spanish Grand Prix as one of his worst races in a long time, Lewis Hamilton isn't giving up the fight yet, adding: "Everyone is working really hard and I know we can get there. We just need to keep motivated and work it out together."
