Adrian Sutil gains five places in the first race, starts the season well
Force India F1

Adrian Sutil suffered a poor qualifying for the inaugural race of the 2011 season. Around the Melbourne circuit, the German only managed to secure 16th place on the grid, two places down on his rookie teammate. The race was a different story, perhaps a more anonymous one.

Sutil made up several places on the first lap, then kept his head down to take an 11th place finish, just missing out on the points. For him and his team, though, there is still plenty of work to be done, as Force India want to be fighting for points at every race, rather than scrabbling to pick up any.

After the Grand Prix, Sutil said: "Generally it was not a bad race. Coming from 16th was not easy; the start itself was good and as usual there were a lot of cars at the first corner, but I made up several places by the end of lap one. We had good performance on the track and in the end it was a good race for the first one of the season."
