As the sun set over Silverstone on Friday, fans took to their beds in the campsites surrounding the track. The orange glow over Litchlake Farm was punctuated by patriotic flags. It was a difficult day to be at the circuit in person, with wet conditions throughout the day, but the sun came out just in time to sink below the horizon.

Fans were rewarded with their patience by a much clearer start to the day on Saturday, and relatively strong performances from both Jenson Button and Paul di Resta, who qualified fifth and sixth for the race respectively. Lewis Hamilton will line up on the grid tenth.
