Sergio Pérez surprises all on his F1 debut in Australia
Sauber F1

Sergio Pérez takes to the grid for the first time in his Sauber, after qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix in 13th position. Pérez surprised everyone by putting in the only one-stop strategy of the race, after finding the tyres held out longer than anticipated.

Pérez managed to fight his way up to 7th position, which would have been a great end to his Formula One debut, but unfortunately both Sauber cars were disqualified after the race due to a rear wing infringement.

Nevertheless, the team weren't shy about heralding their new driver as a bit of a star. Team boss Peter Sauber said: "My first impression was okay because we followed him the last season in GP2 and he did a good job and also during the pre-season tests we were happy with him but in the race he was outstanding. Thirty-five laps with used soft tyres, that is incredible."
