Fairuz Fauzy has signed up as reserve driver to the Lotus-Renault team, having spent a year as third driver at the team formerly known as Lotus Racing. He had a five year contract with the latter, and made regular appearances during Friday free practice sessions, but Fauzy has been released from his contract early.

As well as reserve driver duties, he will be participating in the GP2 series with the Super Nova Racing team. Fairuz has two years experience within the GP2 world, having made his debut in 2005. In 2008, he came 4th in the GP2 Asia series, all with the aforementioned Super Nova team.

Fauzy's sights are firmly set on F1, though, despite the seat in a lower formula. With the announcement of his reserve driver signing, he said: "I would like to thank Lotus Renault for giving me this opportunity and to be part of this team. It is a great team. I will try my best to hopefully be in a race seat one day."
