Renault join forces with Star Wars to celebrate 40 years
Renault Sport Formula One Team

We've often seen film and F1 tie-ups in the Monaco paddock, but this year it was Renault that went all Hollywood ahead of the race, joining forces with Disney to celebrate a joint 40th anniversary. Both the Renault team and the Star Wars franchise are enjoying four decades of existence this year, with the first star wars film released in May 1977, and Renault breaking ground with their F1 car arriving July the same year at Silverstone.

To celebrate, Nico Hülkenberg and Jolyon Palmer got to dress up as a stormtrooper and X-Wing pilot respectively. I'm not sure about anyone else, but I think I'd far rather trust the fate of the resistence to Nico rather than Jolyon, but given that Hülkenberg retired from the race, perhaps it was better this way.

Head of Renault Sport, Cyril Abiteboul, said: "The Star Wars franchise is a global phenomenon with tremendous reach, whilst Renault has one of the most impressive records in Formula One history with 12 world champion titles and 170 wins. We are celebrating our joint 40th anniversaries together in true style and, you never know, we might deploy some Jedi skills on track at forthcoming Grands Prix."
