The F1 paddock has descended upon Singapore and it's time to get our first glimpse of the Marina Bay circuit as the weekend begins with Free Practice 1. We've got new drivers, plus the potential for some damp weather. What could go wrong?

Weather update

rain

Singapore, Friday

29℃

  • Low 25℃
  • Humidity 77%

Heavy rain showers

We haven't experienced any proper rain during sessions at Singapore before, so it will be interesting to see how the inclement conditions affect the running. The track will also be at it's slipperiest during this first session, so there'll be plenty to watch.

One to watch

With the opportunity to participate in Free Practice, Jerome D'Ambrosio will be doing his best during these Virgin Racing evaluation sessions. He's hoping to impress:

This drive is a fantastic opportunity and I am looking forward to helping the team in every way I can, as well as gaining experience on four of the most demanding tracks of the F1 calendar. Looking at the 2011 season, this will be very useful.

- Jérôme D'Ambrosio

It's a little rough on Lucas di Grassi, who will be losing out on practice time at a track he has not driven on before in F1. Meanwhile, Timo Glock has experience of the track but gets to keep his car for the duration. I'm not bitter, honest.

Predictions please

Will it be raining? Will we see any running at all? If we do, who will finish the first session on top? Will anyone crash into the barriers? Will Red Bull be ahead of McLaren?
