The first session is done and dusted, and McLaren have made a good start with Button fastest, and Hamilton third - the pair split by a pesky Red Bull steered by Vettel. The full results are available here but for now, it is time to move on to the next 90 minutes of track time.

Weather update

clear

Autodromo Nationale Monza, Friday

14℃

  • Low 24℃
  • Humidity 59%

Sunny

There were a few complaints about the track conditions early on in the first session, but there can be no miserly comments about the weather. The sun has been shining strongly throughout the day, and looks set to continue to do so for the entire weekend.

One to watch

Button has been talking up his championship fight, suggesting the battle isn't over - even though the maths is starting to go against him.

It's not over until there are not enough points left on the board. It is pretty mixed at the front and as you can see there has been quite a lot of action this year - it is all still to play for.

- Jenson Button

He's made the best possible start he can for the weekend, but how will he fare when it comes to FP2?

Predictions please

Will any more of the marker boards be knocked out during this session? Will Red Bull be able to clamber back to the top? Will Barrichello be able to get more than four laps completed? Who will be fastest?
