Bahrain 2009 - Free Practice 1 - Ninety minutes of practice await teams and drivers in the desert

Published by Christine

The fourth round of the season and we're still waiting for a race weekend that is actually representative of the teams and their pace. That's not a complaint, of course, but perhaps Bahrain will be the one.

Weather update

Weather.com seems to have the day nice and warm, but without too much sunshine. Of course the weather is liable to change at any moment, especially if it's windy, and if that sand is gonna get kicked up.

One to watch

Ferrari are the guys to watch on Friday, as Kimi is running without KERS, whilst Massa has the device installed. The chances are that Räikkönen won't choose to run it at all in Bahrain - my bet is he (or his engineers) are still a bit freaked by the face full of smoke we saw a couple of races ago. However, we need to see if it makes all the difference to their performance.

Predictions please

Will Red Bull still be able to keep up the pace from China? Will Toyota and their Bahrain testing friends have the edge now they have slightly more data than the others? Will we see any more rear diffusers that we weren't expecting? Will Piquet spin off at all today?
