Australia 2009 - Qualifying // The first pole position of the season is about to be decided

Published by Christine

Everything we have seen so far has been building up to this moment - qualifying for the first race of the season. There's no way of knowing who is fast compared to each other, even if the times and the order of things look to be a certain way.

Weather update

The temperature is up to about 20 degrees C, with humidity settling halfway on 50%. The sun is out and conditions look really nice out there. Personally, I'm glad there's no rain heading to Melbourne, as things are mixed up enough as it is.

One to watch

Raikkonen's fast running in the morning was short lived after a hydraulic problem saw the Ferrari slow and end up off track. We don't know how fast he really is, and with little preparation in today's conditions, it'll be interesting to see what kind of time he manages to pull out the bag. Massa finished FP3 in fourth, so the pace looks like it's there.

Predictions please

This is the big one, the pole position prediction for the first qualifying session of 2009. It's almost impossible to tell, but don't be shy about picking someone at random. Your money would have to be on Rosberg who has led every session so far, but there are so many others that it could be. Only time will tell.
