Australia 2009 - Free Practice 3 - The protested diffusers speed things up, so who will be fast on Saturday?

Published by Christine

What we saw in the first two practice sessions wasn't a vast departure from what we were expecting - those with the protested rear diffusers were fast, Lewis appeared to not be fast. However, it was certainly a surprise to find that things weren't settling down in to the old routine, and things could shake out any which way.

Weather update

Amy is on the ground in Melbourne, and tweeted us with a weather update earlier: "Currently 13 degrees in Melbourne, forecast high is 26, no sign of rain." The BBC adds that the minimum is 11, whilst the wind has dropped from yesterday and looks to be about 4mph. There are grey clouds on the long forecast for Monday, though, so that could move in quicker than expected. Keep your eyes peeled.

One to watch

BMW are definitely the team to watch today, as they spent a vast majority of 2008 sandbagging their way through the first two practice sessions only to come out and blitz the field in the third. Kubica certainly didn't seem happy yesterday, and it's odd to have a team with a split KERS strategy, so it will be interesting to see how they fare in FP3.

Predictions please

I still haven't seen anyone lose their nose yet, so please have a guess at who you think might be the first one to do so. We saw quite a few spins yesterday, will anyone else end up in the gravel like Vettel? And will there be any more mention of KERS, as we have barely seen or heard a single thing about it?
