Australia 2009 - Free Practice 2 - The Melbourne circuit delivers on the practice action front

Published by Christine

There was certainly more action than we were expecting in the first session, which only bodes well for the future (assuming this wasn't an anomaly for the teams to suss out where they are). For us in the UK, it was also the debut of the BBC coverage and as Lou pointed out, we were almost expecting an ad break every time.

Weather update

With Free Practice 2 a little later on in the day than it would normally have been, the temperatures will be cooling to help simulate race conditions. Humidity seems to have fallen slightly, the wind may have dropped a little, but the temperature seems to remain about 18 degrees C.

One to watch

With the new rear diffuser passed through, it seemed inevitable that Brawn and Williams would be somewhere near the top. It wasn't that much of a surprise, therefore, to see Rosberg grab the headlines, but at the last minute, his teammate Nakajima popped up into second to join him. I don't remember the last time Kaz managed to match Nico on pure pace alone.

Predictions please

We still haven't seen any front wings fall off, but we have seen quite a few drivers spinning and struggling to keep it on the track. Therefore, will anyone have a major off this session? Who will rule the roost once the 90 minutes are up?
