Australia 2008: The race // Our first live commenting of the first 2008 F1 race

Published by Mr. C

It's all been building up to this. Formula 1 teams have been literally working day and night since the chequered flag dropped in Brazil to ready their 2008 challengers for race day in Melbourne.

We've followed winter testing, we've read the form guide, we've watched free practice and qualifying, and now we want to see a race. The banning of traction control / engine braking has already shown us that the cars will at least look dramatic, let's see if that translates to some on track action. The dash to the first corner will be unmissable at the very least.

The temperature in Melbourne is currently 34°, it's going to be a warm one. Race starts at 15:30 local time.

As ever, we'll be following online live timing, while watching ITV's television coverage.

For anyone looking for online video, we got decent mileage out of TVlizer yesterday. Also, apparently SopCast player will allow you to watch Network Ten Australia's broadcast (although we haven't tried it yet).

A reminder of the qualifying positions can be found on f1.com.

We'll be providing the usual comment updates during both the build up and throughout the race. Please shout if you're watching live. If you've stayed up late, or woken early let us know what fix is keeping you conscious and where you're watching.

As has been the case all weekend, comments posted here will form the bulk of our F1 Digest coverage later on today.

Bring it on!
