It's a new year and that means we can look forward to a new year of racing fun and games, kicking off with Daytona this month. Fernando Alonso is upping sticks and taking part in another extra-curricular series in 2018, this time heading to Daytona at the end of the month. There are a couple of links about that amongst the bumper selection below, as well as reviews and resolutions, Roborace and more.
It's Christmas week and that means it's hard to concentrate too much on full length articles about motorsports that have long since calmed down for the winter. That being the case, I have a selection of links for you today that are predominately audio and video. A few wordy posts have snuck in, but settle in for some audio/visual entertainment as you snaffle another mince pie.
It's almost time for the festive holidays, and that being the case, I wanted to provide you with a handful of great links to peruse whilst waiting for your turkey dinner to be ready or avoiding conversation with forgotten aunts and uncles. Instead of joining the festivities, have a look at the below selection of choice cuts from around the motorsport web - from the ongoing debate about grid girls, through a disappointing message from the lawyers, to a nice end-of-season quiz.
This week, the UK has seen a significant amount of snowfall in various places around the country and that means you can suddenly see stark varieties in the types of driver there are out there. From those who tentatively make their way off driveways and along dual carriageways to those who put pedal to the metal and care little for the traction beneath. It's fascinating.
Usually, when I curate these Selection box links, I like to group together topics that complement each other, and split up the post into various sections of conversation. However, this time is a little bit different for a variety of reasons. Some motorsport seasons have finished, some are just getting started. Some of these links are older, some are brand new, and above all that, we're delving into a few different series rather than just plain old Formula One.
The first round of the 2017/18 Formula E season is mere days away now, and you may have noticed that we're gearing up to go all in on the electric racing series this year. We've got a few posts on Sidepodcast already, and a few podcast episodes too, but there are people far more knowledgable than us out there creating great content. So, if you're knew to Formula E and want a quick start guide, have a perusal through the below links to get fully up to speed for the future of motorsport!
When I went to Texas a couple of years ago, there were two things I knew I had to do before I left - go to a baseball game, and visit the Johnson Space Center in Houston. It looks like Mercedes and Red Bull have gone to the US this weekend with the same thoughts in mind, as their drivers were spotted hanging out at NASA, and generally having a good time. There are no words to describe the video of Max Verstappen in simulated low-gravity, and it just keeps on getting better from there.
Back to back racing always means there isn't a lot of time to digest what has happened in a race, and after the Malaysian Grand Prix last weekend, there's a lot to think about. The topic on everyone's minds at this point in the season is the championship - we're getting to crunch time and the mathematically possibilities are dwindling fast.
If it's news you're looking for, then motorsport is a good place to be hanging out. We've had the fallout of power unit shuffling - Honda, Renault, Toro Rosso, McLaren - as well as driver movements, calendar changes, and some exciting news coming out of Formula E. In this round-up, we've got all that and more, so let's just get started.
The past couple of F1 races haven't been on a par with the excellence of the 2017 season, but don't let that get you down. There's still some fantastic writing, talking, and video making on the web covering all sorts of motorsports. If you've got a few spare minutes, why not catch up with some highlights from the past week with the below selection of links.
It’s been a few weeks since we’ve gathered together some of the best motorsport links that the web has to offer, so here we go with a bumper edition to fill the gap between Belgium and Italy. We’ll cover the racing action that brought us back from the summer break, some more thoughts on Formula E now the season is finished, and the launch of the F1 2017 game.
Here it is, then, the summer break that splits the Formula One season not quite in half with an enforced rest. Some greet the break with enthusiasm - a moment to take a breath and consider what has happened whilst resting and preparing for the final push to the title. Others can't wait for the racing to return. The following links might help to entertain, no matter which side of the fence you fall on!
You’d be forgiven for forgetting we’re rapidly heading into the summer break for Formula One, as there is news hitting the headlines constantly. If it’s not building up to this weekend’s race, it’s more fallout regarding the halo cockpit protection, and if it’s neither of those things, then it’s Sauber and Honda splitting up, or the pressure the sport is coming under from other motor racing series’.
The British Grand Prix weekend gave us plenty to think and talk about, with the live in London event still causing a stir, the race under-delivering give or take a couple of surprising laps towards the end, and the huge swing in the championship battle. Along with that, we've got the recent announcement that the halo is, after all, the chosen cockpit protection device to be put into practice next season. This year is nothing if not packed, so here are a few links from the past week to keep you up to speed.
Formula One is doing an incredible job building up its profile ahead of the British race this weekend, but naturally there are always negative headlines to go with the positive. Lewis Hamilton has been dominating the F1 news once again, so we'll start with just a couple of stories about the enigma that is Britain's multiple world champion.
Although there is a race coming up this weekend in Austria, there's still plenty of conversation about what went on last time out in Baku Whether it's the incredible podium we saw, or the ongoing fallout of the Vettel/Hamilton collision, there's still a lot to understand!
Now, you saw it, right? The Azerbaijan Grand Prix and everything that came with it? Well, would you believe it, there are some opinions about the Vettel and Hamilton incident that need to be shared. I've got a few links to start with on that subject this week, but then we move on to other topics as it's not all about those two drivers, much as you might think it is right now.
We're gearing up for a weekend in Azerbaijan, where the racing is not expected to be up to scratch but still, the sport can always surprise us. in the meantime, keep yourself entertained with a handful of links from around the web, and don't forget you can always check out more places to visit on our dedicated page.
There was quite a lot to talk about following the Canadian Grand Prix - the team orders debate sparked up again, a discussion over which teams are only running one decent driver, as well as the continuing woes at McLaren (when will they end??) and the brilliance of spotting a Ferrari cap at 200mph.
Naturally, this week's selection of links from around the motorsport web have a handful of discussions about Fernando Alonso's appearance in the Indy 500. The good news is that he's done it, he did brilliantly, and he's coming home in one piece. The bad news is that we now have to ponder what the fall out is from everything that happened this past weekend.
