Ricciardo tops the table as Hamilton takes the season

Daniel Ricciardo was the fastest driver on the day at Yas Marina, but Lewis Hamilton took the championship. He also managed to snatch the fastest laps trophy, but was only the fourth fastest car as he eased across the finish line. Felipe Massa was in the hunt for race victory in Abu Dhabi, which was helped by his fast pace, finishing second on the table below.

Mercedes top out at over 700 points as Williams secure third

Mercedes wrapped up the constructor's championship several races ago, so the nerves were transferred to the Williams team, as they hoped to secure third from Ferrari. Their double podium finish allowed that to happen - in fact they pulled out a significant gap over the Scuderia once both cars had crossed the line.

Hamilton wins, Bottas improves and Kimi and Kevin equalise

It was close going into the final race of the year, and although double points didn't make a difference to the actual result, they certainly made Hamilton's championship winning points tally look impressive compared to everyone else. The double Williams podium means that both Bottas and Massa move up the order, with Valtteri finishing fourth overall behind Ricciardo. Sergio Pérez also moved up the order with a final points finish in Abu Dhabi.

Lewis Hamilton wins as Rosberg's car develops ERS problems

Lewis Hamilton won the race pretty much off the line, storming forward to snatch the lead from teammate and polesitter Nico Rosberg. Nico himself had a car that gradually got slower and slower, dropping out of the points, so there was little he could have done anyway. Williams finished both cars on the podium, with a strong result for Jenson Button as well.

Red Bull start from the pit lane and Grosjean goes to the back

Romain Grosjean had a twenty place penalty forced upon him, which was hefty especially considering he only qualified in 16th place. The additional carry forward would have gone to the next race, but as there isn't one, he was also handed a drive through penalty in the race. The Red Bull pair were found to have illegal front wings and were thus excluded from the qualifying results. The subsequent changes to the car mean both Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel are starting from the pit lane.

Rosberg takes pole position for final round of the season

It was Nico Rosberg who managed the pressure at Yas Marina and put together a solid lap to take pole position. Lewis Hamilton wasn't far behind his championship rival, but had a few scruffy moments on several of his flying laps that saw him second when the session ended. Williams secured the second row, with Red Bull locking out the third.

Rosberg tops the timesheets with Massa best of the rest

Rosberg took over the top spot from teammate Hamilton, with a few tenths in hand for the final practice sessions. Williams were best of the rest, but Fernando Alonso finally managed to get some running in to finish fourth. He still found the Ferrari stopped beneath him, though, as he struggles in his final race weekend for the team. Elsewhere, Will Stevens finally found his way in the Caterham and started closing the gap to teammate Kamui Kobayashi. The pair were still well off the pace of the rest of the field, however.

Alonso gets little running, as Hamilton remains on top

Second practice took a similar pattern to first, particularly when it came to the fight between the Mercedes duo. Kevin Magnussen put on an impressive show to finish third fastest, with a relatively speedy Red Bull next in line. Fernando Alonso had a halted afternoon when his Ferrari stopped out on track after just a couple of laps. He made it back to the pit lane without the car, and didn't rejoin the session. Bottas was the best placed Williams, with Daniil Kvyat also putting in a strong performance in his Toro Rosso.

Hamilton leads as Button loses out on running

Lewis Hamilton took the first top honours in this final weekend battle with his teammate, but as always it was super close at the top. It wasn't quite so close at the end, with Will Stevens making his F1 debut and finishing more than seven seconds off the pace. He didn't get a lot of running, however, as a fire extinguisher incident meant the car had to be cleaned hurriedly.

Hamilton hits the top of the charts again

Lewis Hamilton pipped his teammate to the fastest lap in the race yet again, with a tenth of a second over Nico Rosberg. Nico Hülkenberg was third fastest with Jenson Button in the top five continuing his show of good pace on a Sunday. Daniel Ricciardo was last, as the Red Bull driver retired from the race halfway through. Kimi Räikkönen didn't have a lot of pace, just four tenths faster than Ricciardo, despite getting to the end of the event.

McLaren improve as Williams and Ferrari keep fighting

Red Bull's solid third place has drifted a little further away from the dominant Mercedes, but they keep hold of their lonely position without trouble. The battle between Williams and Ferrari remained stable after the action from Interlagos, despite Felipe Massa's strong podium finish. McLaren managed to move further away from Force India, but they don't look like they'll get near Ferrari before the season comes to its conclusion.

Rosberg raises his game as Bottas drops down the order

Nico Rosberg managed to close the gap to championship leader and teammate Lewis Hamilton, with just 17 points between them. The poor finish for Valtteri Bottas, due to seat belt and pit stop woes, meant that he dropped two places in one go - it's such a tight battle for 4th, 5th and 6th place in the standings. Kimi Räikkönen also managed to move up a position, whilst Felipe Massa's podium place didn't gain him any solid positions in the standings but did help him close the gap to Jenson Button.

Rosberg wins a tense Mercedes fight to the finish

Nico Rosberg defended his lead for most of the race, but was under the most pressure during the last ten to fifteen laps. With Lewis Hamilton making a small mistake with big off-track consequences, the Brit was left chasing after his teammate in an attempt to snatch the win. Rosberg held his own to claw back a couple of points in the championship fight, which will go down to the wire in Abu Dhabi.

Pérez and Kvyat drop to the back of the grid

Two drivers face grid penalties this weekend and both of them relate to incidents that happened last weekend in Austin. Sergio Pérez was handed the unusual seven-place grid penalty after being found to have driven recklessly and caused a first lap incident with Adrian Sutil. Daniil Kvyat is taking on the rest of his penalty from the US Grand Prix, after changing his engine that weekend. He couldn't take the full ten place drop there, and the hangover affects his Brazil starting position as well.

Rosberg snatches pole position as Massa puts on a charge

The format remained as four out in the first and second sessions before the top ten were set to be decided in Q3. Sebastian Vettel appeared to be struggling for pace initially but managed to sneak up into the stronger positions towards the end of the session. The fight for pole position initially only ever going to be between Rosberg and Hamilton, but for a moment it looked as though home favourite Felipe Massa could spring a surprise.

Rosberg makes it three for three at Interlagos

Nico Rosberg topped the times, with his Mercedes teammate and current championship leader Lewis Hamilton just a tenth of a second slower in the final hour of practice in Brazil. The two Williams drivers were next in line, with Daniel Ricciardo best of the non-Mercedes powered cars. Jenson Button improved after missing out on some running yesterday, whilst Jean-Éric Vergne struggled having sat out FP1 and been forced to curtail his practice session in FP2.

Alonso's Ferrari catches fire as red flags stop play

There were incidents galore in the second session of practice at Interlagos. Perhaps the biggest was for Fernando Alonso, whose Ferrari drew to a halt out on track as the engine gave up and then burst into flames. He quickly hopped out of the car and grabbed a nearby extinguisher to put his firefighting skills to the test. Elsewhere, Jean-Éric Vergne missed much of the running after the car halted, and Sergio Pérez was unable to take part after his car was put into the barriers by Juncadella during the morning session.

Button misses out on running as Juncadella crashes

Friday practice drivers were in full force today, as Max Verstappen got behind the wheel of the Toro Rosso. He took an unusual route off track after locking up, heading through the safety car run off, but found his way back to the racing line eventually. Felipe Nasr was in the Williams, with no major incident but the same could not be said for Daniel Juncadella. Driving Sergio Pérez's Force India, he crashed into the barriers bringing out the red flags.

The smaller field sees Sebastian Vettel the fastest out there

It's a short list this week, due to the absence of both the Marussia and Caterham teams, as well as the early retirement of both Adrian Sutil and Sergio Pérez. Those that did manage to set lap times included Sebastian Vettel who shot to the fastest lap, something he used to do a lot but hasn't been able to achieve quite so often this year. Fernando Alonso and Daniil Kvyat also put on a good show, with the Mercedes duo fourth and fifth, with Lewis Hamilton ahead.

No movement as Mercedes hit the 600 points mark

None of the teams switched position following the US Grand Prix, but Mercedes scooping their tenth 1-2 result allowed them to break through the 600 points barrier in impressive style. The mid-points battling was fantastic to watch during the race itself, but the end results have allowed the teams to separate out somewhat.
