Volkswagen smashed the Goodwood Festival of Speed course record today in their all-electric ID.R race car. After setting a blindingly fast time up the hill in 2018, the team returned this year with a plan to crush a long standing record Nick Heidfeld set in an F1 car way back in 1999.

Alonso charms the crowds with Indy 500 thank you speech

If you saw any of the Indy 500 action this past weekend, you'll know two thinks about how Fernando Alonso fared: firstly, that he didn't make it to the end of the race which was heartbreaking to see, but secondly, that he did an incredible job throughout the race and was seriously impressive on his debut. It's not just us that noticed that, either. At the Indy 500 Victory Banquet, Alonso was awarded the Rookie of the Race trophy.

Formula E announce partnership with Renault and Tag Heuer

Organisers behind the FIA Formula E Championship announced two major partnerships today along with revealing 3D concept images of their proposed 2014 challenger. The news sees two more well known motor sport brands sign up to the series, with TAG Heuer and Renault both being named as founding partners.

The German Touring Car Masters (DTM) series heads to the Brands Hatch circuit this weekend where teams and drivers will compete the second round of this year's championship. Notably the driver lineup features a number of names familiar to F1 fans, including Toyota and Marussia legend Timo Glock, plus perennial McLaren test driver Gary Paffett.

McLaren Automotive have released a great video highlighting the benefits of testing in a Formula One simulator, even if you're not trying to make the next F1 chassis. The McLaren MP4-12C is currently in development with an expected launch in 2012, so every tweak to improve performance is highly important.
