2006

October

  • Daily F1 Blog is born, using Blogger as host.

November

  • Nothing significant happens.

December

  • We decide to start an F1 podcast. Sidepodcast.com is born.
  • The Sidepodcast forum opens.
  • The Intro show is released.


2007

January

  • The first official episodes are released - a double header season review.
  • The first Sidepodcast TV video appears, featuring footage from Autosport International.

February

  • We encourage people to Digg us.
  • iTunes finds Sidepodcast to be New and/or Notable.
  • The Sidepodcast Cafepress store is launched.

March

  • Daily F1 Blog is retired.
  • We Live-Forum through the Australian GP.
  • We attempt our first qualifying/GP split podcasts.
  • Sidepodcast signs up for Twitter.
  • Sidepodcast tries Batracing. (We are not very good.)

April

  • Transcripts become available.
  • The first ever video preview is released for Bahrain.
  • Sidepodcast join Dailymotion and Blip.tv.
  • Guide to F1 - the first mini series - is released.

May

  • Sidepodcast is reviewed in Braketest.net.
  • We attend the one and (so far) only GPLive event.
  • We also try out paper advertising in Autosport magazine.
  • We begin to take over the web, signing up to Jaiku, Delicious and Flickr.
  • The forum is retired.

June

  • Sidepodcast signs up to Skype and gets a voicemail number: 0121 28 TRACK.
  • The Canada GP preview script is used on Virgin Media's preview video.
  • The first ever Sidepodcast Diaries is released.
  • Sidepodcast attends the F1 test at Silverstone.
  • We also rock up at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

July

  • Sidepodcast TV is featured on Podfinder UK.
  • We spend three days at Silverstone courtesy of Honda.
  • More Honda goodness, as we check out their Open Day.
  • Sidepodcast appears on the iTunes homepage.

August

  • Sidepodcast begins to support videos for the iPhone.
  • We begin the Behind the Scenes blog posts.

September

  • The GPLive video is released, our first foray into HD.
  • We release a special Friday night episode for the espionage saga.
  • Talking Points are introduced to the weekly show.

October

  • Talking Points are retired from the weekly show.
  • F1Minute begins, every weekday.
  • We release our first ever outtakes.
  • Sidepodcast tests out Pageflakes.

November

  • Sidepodcast hits the Zune Marketplace.
  • And Miro.
  • F1Minute launches an embeddable player.

December

  • F1Minute branches out to its own domain.
  • The first ever annual Sidepoddie Awards are held.

2008

January

  • The F1 Rewind Pilot is released.
  • Sidepodcast is nominated for The Best Blog Podcast category in the 2007 Performancing Blog Awards.
  • The weekly show has a new theme and structure.
  • Sidepodcast attends Autosport International and records its first outside broadcast.
  • F1Minute becomes a Wordpress widget.
  • The Facebook Group is born.

February

  • F1Minute becomes a Facebook application.
  • Must Comment Monday is resurrected from pre-Sidepodcast days.
  • iheartfranck.com is launched.
  • Sidepodcast features its first guest post.
  • The Fantasy Racers league begins.
  • Sidepodcast Diaries makes an ill-fated return.

March

  • Sidepodcast TV becomes a Facebook application.
  • The first Inside Track preview is released.
  • We introduce a schedule page to Sidepodcast.com.
  • The first F1 Digest shows are released.
  • We begin Live Commenting.
  • We are featured on Radio 5live's Pods & Blogs For the Love of Pod programme.

April

  • Sidepodcast takes a short wedding-related hiatus.
  • We feature a guest commentator on the Inside Track lap.
  • Sidepodcast falls out with YouTube.

May

  • The Sidepodcast community begins to use drop.io.
  • Sidepodcast review all team and driver websites.
  • We live stream a recording of Inside Track.

June

  • We begin the Sidepodcast Partner TV scheme.
  • The Sidepodcast community Live Comments its way through 24 Hours of Le Mans.
  • Fantasy Racers reminders start to be posted.
  • Sidepodcast attends the three day test at Silverstone.

July

  • We attend the British GP courtesy of Honda.
  • F1Minute continues to be released from the middle of a field.
  • F1 Digest does not.
  • We have to reduce our Goodwood presence due to Silverstone germs.
  • The Live Commenting Live... Thing is introduced.

August

  • Sidepodcast starts to provide shows via torrent.
  • We attempt the very first live streaming of the weekly podcast.
  • The weekly show finally gets its own name - F1 Debrief.

September

  • The first ever Parade Lap goes live.
  • Sidepodquiz debuts.
  • We fall out with Facebook.

October

  • The Sidepodcast community Live Comments its way through Petit Le Mans.
  • Sidepodcast adopts a Panda.
  • F1Minute celebrates 300 shows and its 1 year anniversary on the same day.
  • The Sidepodcast community Live Comments its way through Bathurst and the Japanese GP at the same time.
  • The Wiki is launched.
  • Sidepodpanel makes its debut.

November

  • We suffer through a server nightmare throughout the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend.
  • F1Minute gets more content, including quotes, tweets and press release updates.
  • Sidepodcast almost takes a weekend off. It doesn't happen.
  • Daily posts begin, as an off-topic area.
  • Sidepodcast live comments the space shuttle mission STS123 to the Space Station
  • Dirty Scarab's header designs are revolved at the top of Sidepodcast.com.
  • One half of Sidepodcast gets a tour of the Red Bull factory.

December

  • Sidepodpanel Season 1 ends.
  • Went on the first part of the tour, to the FIA headquarters in Paris.
  • The Sidepodcast community Live Comments it way through the Race of Champions.
  • Technical trouble forces the first non-live show since the introduction of live shows.
  • The non-live show is subsequently cancelled due to Mr C sulking about being forced off air by Top Gear.
  • The first ever Sidepodparty is held on the Sunday before Christmas, featuring the Sidepoddie Awards, the 12 Days of F1 Christmas, presents for the presenters, calls from commenters and a drinking game.
  • The Sidepodtour continues with a visit of the Williams F1 factory, including meeting Sir Frank Williams.
  • Episode 88 becomes the first F1 Debrief in which neither Christine or Mr C appear in.


2009

January

  • Sidepodcast Diaries returns. (Again.)
  • We start up a league for the 2009 Fantasy Racers competition.
  • Sidepodcast is nominated for two categories in the 2008 Weblog Awards, including the Best Online Community and Best Podcast.
  • The first live show of 2009 runs for three hours, and features a record number of Skype calls.
  • SPC attend the Fit to Race workshop at the Porsche Centre at Silverstone, bumping into Mark Webber.
  • Sidepodchat's first episode is released, lasting two hours and twenty minutes.

February

  • The first ever Character Cup begins on Sidepodcast.com, with Fernando Alonso the winner.
  • February becomes the month of the guest post, with Steven Roy and Stuart Codling taking centre stage.

March

  • The Sidepodcast studio suffers major mixer problems.
  • F1 Digest debuts for 2009 with a Season Preview special.
  • Sidepodpanel returns for Season 2.
  • Joe Saward is a guest on a special F1 Debrief.

April

  • Christine finally admits defeat and takes a short holiday.
  • An Aside with Joe becomes a regular feature.
  • The inaugural Sidepodscience Meetup is a fabulous success.
  • The Doohickey was pulled for a weekend but made a triumphant, and tweaked, return.
  • Christine's Felipe Baby hits the bigtime, getting aired on BBC Radio and received plaudits from hundreds of fans, including Lee McKenzie and Rob Smedley himself.

May

  • Christine is interviewed on radio for the first time by Lisa McCormick for BBC Tees.
  • Parade Lap returns with guest host Alex.
  • Fake Sidepodcast appears on Twitter.
  • There was an invasion in the Character Cup, with much hilarity ensuing.
  • The wrong date was posted on the daily thread, with much confusion ensuing.

June

  • The studio gets its very own Sidepodfan - but it sounds like a plane taking off when it goes at full speed.
  • Ollie pronounces Alex to be host of the Parade Lap. We are grateful to be on his show.
  • Sidepodcast unexpectedly attends Friday Free Practice at the British Grand Prix, courtesy of Shell.
  • Christine meets Rob!

July

  • We start to plan Sidepodradio.
  • We postpone Sidepodradio.
  • Sidepodcast takes a four-day hiatus.

August

  • Sidepodcast returns from hiatus with the caveat that it's all over if Ari doesn't win.
  • Sidepodradio is rescheduled for September.
  • In an epic live streaming weekend, Amy went to Albert Park, Mr & Mrs C went to Giggles' house, Giggles tried to put up some blinds and Bassano had to come to the rescue.
  • Whilst live streaming, Mr C mistakenly pronounces Ringo Starr as dead.

September

  • The Sidepodfilmclub is launched with live commenting of Talladega Nights.
  • The epic Sidepodradio raises £680 for Wings for Life and is an outstanding 12 hours of live broadcasting.

October

  • Mr and Mrs C move house, and commence live streaming from Christine's mother-in-law's house. Nice wallpaper!
  • Sidepodcast launch their first competition.
  • Sidepodcast 3.0 begins to infiltrate the old site.

November

  • Mr and Mrs C head to Brooklands for a small Sidepodmeetup at the Mercedes-Benz event.
  • The daily post gets a week of guest writers to celebrate its one year anniversary.
  • A new Friday Fun game is introduced each week to help make the most of the off season.

December

  • We experiment with separate threads for each day of testing.
  • Sidepodcast introduce their first ever Advent Calendar... in podcast form.
  • The first Sidepodhouseparty takes place at Giggles' house.
  • Christine leaves Twitter.


2010

January

  • A Facebook campaign sees Christine return to Twitter.
  • A week of F1Minute videos are produced.
  • Giggles Radio begins - an A-Z musical journey, brightening up Sunday afternoons.

February

  • The first day of pre-season testing sees our highest traffic on the site to date.
  • Christine's Rankings debuts.
  • Christine starts a new fiction blog, with Life in the Fast Lane taking votes after each chapter to determine where the story should go next.
  • The Wiki undergoes a reorganisation.
  • All comments on Sidepodcast.com now become live - banishing the use of F5 to the history books.

March

  • Thursday Thoughts and Friday Fun go out on a high, sealing an excellent off season.
  • The Factbyte Factbox is relaunched in spectacular style - covering all sessions of the Bahrain GP.
  • After disappointment over the non-refuelling start to the season, we revisit the F1 Happy Place with a great response on Twitter.
  • We live comment 12 Hours of Sebring, and the Red Bull Crashed Ice final.
  • Steven writes an epic “How F1 Should Be” guest post.
  • Sidepodcast benefits from an unprecedented number of on-the-ground reporters for the Australian GP.

April

  • As a number of visitors to Sidepodcast are also Doctor Who fans, we live comment our way through the first episode of the new series.
  • Disillusioned with the start of the F1 season, the Sidepodcast crew take a break, resulting in the first ever multi-daily thread.
  • We return with news that we are scaling back our Sidepodoutput - no new podcasts apart from Joe shows and weekly daily threads - but the live commenting will continue.
  • The weekly daily thread does not work. Instead, six volunteers are recruited to share the daily writing duties with Christine.
  • We produce a post-China podcast made up entirely of guest submissions.
  • Life in the Fast Lane returns for a second outing.

May

  • We begin the On this Day series, with a fabulous Franck post.
  • Sidepodcast celebrates 3000 posts, and with it comes a brand new random button.

June

  • We decided to open a separate thread for every day of the World Cup tournament.
  • We also decide to live comment each day of Wimbledon as well.
  • We find ourselves commenting Canada, Le Mans and an England match all at the same time. Many of us cannot cope!
  • A new format of Sidepodchat is tested out - a few panellists, a few topics and a time limit.
  • The Factbyte Factbox returns for Canada, with a few new features added.

July

  • Mr and Mrs C move house. Again!
  • The 2010 Character Cup begins with a shock - Petrov knocks out reigning championship Alonso in the first matchup of the first round.
  • Tweets of the Week makes the transition from F1Minute to Sidepodcast.
  • The polling system on Sidepodcast gets a revamp.

August

  • Sidepodcast are invited to watch the Hungarian GP at one of the Renault factory days.
  • Amy's Australia diary arrives - six months late!
  • Christine signs up for a 5K race, raising money for the Grand Prix Mechanics Trust.
  • There's a meetup in London as a send-off for the Sidepodspa trip.
  • We Factbyte Factbox not one, but two IndyCar races.
  • The Sidepodspa trip is a great success!

September

  • We release a special Sidepodchat featuring those on the Spa trip.
  • The regular daily writer lineup gets a bit of a shake-up.
  • The brand new Dashboard is introduced.
  • A special Giggles Radio edition is aired called: Songs that You Will All Hate but Christine and Amy Will Love.
  • The Factbyte Factbox gets realtime analytics.
  • The On Track With... Series begins, thanks to Kai.

October

  • Amy kicks off the Aussie dailies on a Saturday.
  • Christine runs her 5K race, raising over £200 for the Grand Prix Mechanics Trust.
  • F1 Debrief makes a surprise return post-Japan.
  • Giggles pushes the envelope of dailies by including a video and an image map.
  • Giggles Radio comes to the end of its first series.

November

  • Mr C records a special Sidepodchat with Naoise from ManipeF1.
  • Thursday Thoughts and Friday Fun make their return.
  • As a change of pace, we Factbyte Factbox Children in Need.
  • Lou introduces a Podcast of the Week section in her daily posts, looking through the Sidepodcast archives.

  • Sidepodfilm club breaks from motorsport traditions to watch feel-good film Love Actually.

  • Sidepodcast debuts the Heartbeat - an updating overview of commenting numbers.
  • Sidepodcast has a bad experience with Shell PR.
  • The Factbyte Factbox covers Red Nose Day and then 12 Hours of Sebring, for a total of about 20 hours live coverage in a weekend.
  • The difficult second single appears - I Can Sing a Sidewall (Song for Pirelli).
