Live: The Jewel in the Parade Lap Crown

Published

By Christine Blachford

The Parade Lap is back and this time we're celebrating everything cliché as we get you started on this Monaco Grand Prix morning. You may find the odd mention of F1 but with our guest host Alex from SofaF1 joining us, chances are it will be all about the music and the giggles.

We Tremayned on the Debrief last week, so stay tuned to find out what games we can create in this next hour that will also become a Sidepodwide phenomenon.

We'll be going live at 11:10 BST, and we're scheduled to run for an hour, but we promise not to spill over into the BBC coverage.

Lo and behold, the long-awaited return of the Parade Lap. It's fair to say that the future of this show has been, and still is, unknown, but for this week, it is back. We're bringing in guest host Alex from SofaF1 to help us along the way, and the usual mix of songs and chatter will lead us nicely into the BBC coverage.

I don't know exactly what's on the cards for this next hour of fun, but I can say for certain that we will not be baking a cupcake. That's for the end-of-season show!

We are scheduled to go live at 11:10am BST, and regardless of whether we are on time, we won't run late, as the BBC coverage should not be missed.

Things really should be all about the racing right now, but there are certain elements of the politics of F1 still hanging over our shoulders. The Donington Park saga still rumbles on but there is plenty more to talk about:

  • McLaren have apparently offered the FIA a written apology. Whitmarsh confirms this is true but won't say anymore about what was inside the letter, so the question is, what kind of an effect are they hoping this will have? Will their sentencing (that seems like the appropriate word?) be more leniant because they've said sorry again?
  • It's been a while since I've plugged the F1 Big Picture, and it's a pretty good one of Piquet at the moment. This is topical because anyone who is anyone is making bets on how long the youngster will last. His performance hasn't been up to scratch, and surely there's a driver snapping at his heels for the opportunity.
  • The SofaF1 Pole Poll continues, and if you're already taking part (or if you want to have a go), you've got until qualifying starts to make your selections. I don't know how I got roped into this, considering how much I dislike making predictions, but it's great fun - even if Mr C is beating me. I don't quite know exactly how the scoring works, but you get points based on whether you select the correct pole sitter and for your guesswork on the top eight points finishers as well. Good luck!

That'll do it for now. It's not long until qualifying gets underway, although thankfully for us in the UK, it's on at a more reasonable time of day. There will be many threads popping up throughout the day, so no doubt I'll see you in the comments.

Sidepodcast Diaries 18 - Let Pictures Tell the Story

Christine tells of the other half of Sidepodcast's recent publication, and encourages you to share your enjoyment of it at meandpage22.co.uk.

Christine: Hello, this is just a quick diary because it occurs to me, I'm doing the exact same thing as I did last year. Woohoo, Sidepodcast Diaries is back. Uh oh, the season's started, no time to do anything. So with this one video, I am already better than last year.

I do actually have a point to my ramblings though because in this month's F1 Racing, the other half of Sidepodcast had a photo published. He was pretty excited about it and he's been insufferable ever since.

[Text reads: His comment on Sidepodcast: SIDEPODPICTURE in f1 frickin' racing magazine, baby!]

To celebrate this achievement, Alex from Sofa F1 set up a web page at mendpage22.co.uk. The idea is for anyone who has this month's edition of F1 Racing to go out and take a picture of themselves and page 22 so that we know that people love it.

We've had some great submissions already. Alex himself took page 22 on a tour of London, Lukeh took page 22 on a bike ride, and Jackie put page 22 under the microscope. Here's me and the panda with page 22.

If you happen to have the magazine lying around and access to a camera, please take a pic and go and upload it at meandpage22.co.uk. It would make the man's day. If you don't have the magazine, or can't be bothered, don't worry about it. His ego's too big anyway.
